Winning ideas per city

During October and November 2024, CATAL1.5°T Climathons were held in 8 countries across West Africa. At the end of the intensive climathon days, several winners were announced from each city, their projects ranging from transforming waste into valuable resources to implementing energy-efficient technologies.   • Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso
  1. Eco-Mines: Integrated plastic waste management system to produce materials for construction and household use.
  2. Climatis: Devices for purifying air and cooling public spaces using evaporation.
  3. Agro-Top: Conservation agriculture techniques to rehabilitate degraded soils.
  4. Jacinthe d’Eau: Transforms invasive water hyacinths into eco-friendly products like fertilizers and ecological charcoal.
  • Conakry, Guinea
  1. Selbaso: Extracts salt while protecting mangroves using solar tarpaulin systems for solar energy.
  2. Mob Urbain: Reduces the carbon footprint of urban transport through shared electric vehicles.
  3. Un Enfant, Un Sac Recyclé: Creates school bags from recycled materials to raise awareness about recycling among youth.
  • Nouakchott, Mauritania
  1. Bioelec: Electricity generation using Typha plants.
  2. Rashad Energy: Reduces or enables the reduction of electricity usage.
  3. EcoArgile: Application of clay plaster for energy-efficient housing.
  • Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire
  1. Dayo: A mobile app connecting farmers and wholesalers, promoting sustainable farming, and transforming agricultural waste into bio-fertilizer.
  2. Rizi’o: An automated water management system for rice farming.
  3. Aquateck: Urban aquaponics solutions using a digital platform for sustainable agriculture.
  • Dakar, Senegal
  1. Sunu Engrais: A project providing natural fertilizers for sustainable farming.
  2. Nataal: Innovations in precision agriculture and irrigation systems.
  3. Techno Conserv: Solutions for food preservation.
  • Niamey, Niger
  1. The Green: Community gardens for sustainable urban agriculture, with water infrastructure like wells and solar pumps, and composting household waste into fertilizers.
  2. Wangari Climat Initiative: Aims to transform Niamey into a greener and climate-resilient city by enhancing green infrastructure.
  3. Smart City: Focuses on building resilient homes using recycled materials and bioclimatic designs to adapt to extreme temperatures while minimizing energy consumption.
